Purpose of the Bill : Rep. D. Short added that the bill comes from the Sussex County Government, and stated that the County Engineering Department is requesting that the state code be changed so that Sussex County can build one centralized waste water treatment plant.
Committee Findings: Mr. Hal Godwin, Deputy Administrator of Sussex County Government, stated that he believes a centralized waste water treatment plan could provide a more efficient job if there was one central waste water plant. Rep. Valihura asked Mr. Godwin why Sussex County has the restriction currently in place. Mr. Godwin answered that he does not have the answer to this question. Rep. D. Short offered that there were cities already in the county that offered waste water service. However, over time, population growth has increased the need for one centralized location.
