Purpose of the Bill : The bill provides for the licensing of professional acupuncturists in the State of Delaware. The purpose of the bill is to protect the public and provide a defined scope of practice for those individuals qualified to practice as licensed acupuncture practitioners. The bill sets out standards for licensure and establishes an Acupuncture Advisory Council. The bill requires that acupuncture needles be single-use only. The bill also contains a grandfathering clause for those who have been practicing in Delaware within 12 months prior to the enactment date.
Committee Findings: The committee heard from representatives of the acupuncture community and from the Medical Society of Delaware, the Division of Professional Regulation, and the Board of Medical Practice. All in attendance stated that the bill was the result of extensive discussions and was satisfactory to all major parties involved. No major concerns were expressed about the bill by members of the committee.
