Purpose of the Bill : This Bill requires 16-17 year olds to wear a conforming helmet when operating bicycles and motorized scooters and skateboards (which can attain speeds up to 35-40 mph).


Committee Findings: Rep. Thornburg expressed concern about whether HB 174 would affect the Amish in her district because they do not wear helmets while riding scooters because of a religious reason. She was informed that the Amish will not be affected by this bill.
