Purpose of the Bill : This Bill gives the Delaware State Police Sex Offender Task Force Agents powers of arrest by amending Chapter 84, Title 11 of the Delaware Code to include Delaware State Police Sex Offender Task Force Agents in the definition of “Police Officer” under § 8401(5)(a).
Committee Findings: Elizabeth Olsen of DSHS explained that this bill is necessary to enforce the Adam Walsh Act. There was some concern among committee members about who these task force agents were and the fact that they are armed. Ms. Olsen eased the concerns by explaining that they go through the same training as all other police officers in the state and many were retired law enforcement officers. There were no further concerns on the bill.
