SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1

TO

HOUSE BILL NO. 141

AMEND House Bill No. 141 on line 22 by inserting after “ Identification ” the following: “ no earlier than 90 days before the candidate filing deadline ”.

FURTHER AMEND House Bill No. 141 on line 42 by inserting after “ check ” the following: “ no earlier than the first date an individual may file as a candidate and ”.

FURTHER AMEND House Bill No.141 on line 63 by inserting after “ check, ” the following: “ no earlier than 90 days before the candidate filing deadline and ”.

FURTHER AMEND House Bill No. 141 on line 82 by inserting after “ check ” the following: “ no earlier than 90 days before the candidate filing deadline and ”.

FURTHER AMEND House Bill No. 141 on line 103 by inserting after “ check ” the following: “ no earlier than 90 days before the candidate filing deadline and ”.

SYNOPSIS

This Amendment adds that the earliest an unaffiliated candidate, candidate nominated by a party, write-in candidate, and candidate for special elections to the General Assembly may request a criminal background check is 90 days before the candidate filing deadline. The Amendment also adds that the earliest a candidate in a primary election may request a criminal background check is the first date an individual may file as a candidate.
