SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 26

RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF JUNE 2017 AS LGBTQ PRIDE MONTH IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, Delaware has a committed history of being at the forefront of supporting equality for all of its citizens; and

WHEREAS, in recent years, tremendous advancements have been made with respect to equitable treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (“LGBTQ”) people, both in Delaware and throughout the nation; and

WHEREAS, despite these advances, LGBTQ people continue to face discrimination and LGBTQ youth continue to be at increased risk for bullying, substance abuse, depression, homelessness, and suicide; and

WHEREAS, the month of June has become a symbolic month in which LGBTQ people and their allies have come together in various celebrations of pride; and

WHEREAS, recognizing Pride Month will help to foster within the community an atmosphere of inclusion, acceptance, and celebration; and

WHEREAS, LGBTQ individuals, along with their families, friends, and neighbors, will honor Pride Month in cities and towns across the State and country; and

WHEREAS, the month-long celebration is an opportunity for all Delawareans to affirm their commitment to mutual respect and understanding.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the members recognize June 2017 as LGBTQ Pride Month in the State of Delaware.

SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution recognizes June 2017 as LGBTQ Pride Month in the State of Delaware.
