149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 60

RECOGNIZING JANUARY 27, 2018, AS THE ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY.

WHEREAS, in 2005 the United Nations passed resolution 60/7, designating January 27 th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day; and

WHEREAS, this specific date was chosen because of its significance as the anniversary of the Russian liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27, 1945; and

WHEREAS, the Auschwitz concentration camp was the largest camp operated by the Nazis during the holocaust; and

WHEREAS, over 10 million individuals, including close to 6 million people of Jewish faith, died during the Holocaust in these camps; and

WHEREAS, we as a society must recognize and remember this horrific occurrence, in order to ensure that we never allow it to reoccur;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Delaware House of Representatives of the 149 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, with the Senate concurring therein, that January 27, 2018, is hereby recognized as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
