HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 71

RECOGNIZING MARCH 29, 2018 AS “NATIONAL VIETNAM VETERANS DAY”.

WHEREAS, on January 12, 1962, Operation Chopper commenced by deploying United States Army pilots transporting more than 1,000 South Vietnamese service members to capture a National Liberation Front stronghold 10 miles west of Saigon; and

WHEREAS, Operation Chopper marked the beginning of the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, more than 58,000 service members laid down their lives serving our great Nation; and

WHEREAS, National Vietnam Veterans Day is about honoring and showing our gratitude to the service members who fought with unparalleled bravery in one of our most challenging wars – a war whose effects continues to reverberate throughout our Nation; and

WHEREAS, National Vietnam Veterans Day is about reaffirming our commitment and showing all service members, who leave behind friends, family, and loved ones to serve their country and protect our liberties, the respect and dignity they deserve; and

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware is home to more than 27,000 Vietnam-era veterans and more than 73,000 service members; and

WHEREAS, on March 29, 1973, the last of our troops left Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, on March 29, 2018, we salute our service members and honor their dedication and courage in serving their country – Welcome Home!

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that March 29, 2018, is hereby recognized as “National Vietnam Veterans Day”.

SYNOPSIS

This resolution recognizes March 29, 2018 as “National Vietnam Veterans Day”, a day to honor and show gratitude to all service members, especially the Vietnam-era service members who risk their lives protecting our great Nation.
