HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 11

HONORING BOYD AND LIANE SORENSON BY DESIGNATING THE NEW VALLEY ROAD PEDESTRIAN PATHWAY BETWEEN EVANSON ROAD AND LANTANA SQUARE AS "SORENSON'S WAY".

WHEREAS, Boyd Sorenson was active in the Hockessin community for many years; and

WHEREAS, he was a board member of the Greater Hockessin Area Community Association for many years, and is a past president; and

WHEREAS, in 1997 he represented Hockessin Greenways and, with his committee, formulated and pushed for the development of major enhancement concepts for Hockessin; and

WHEREAS, his foresight has seen three of those concepts come to life: the Route 41 Lancaster Pike Safety Improvements Project (completed 2006), the Hockessin Old Lancaster Pike Streetscape/Drainage Project (completed 2011) and the Valley Road Greenway (completed 2015); and

WHEREAS, Liane Sorenson has also served the Hockessin community for many years as a State Representative (1993-1994) and State Senator (1995-2013); and

WHEREAS, she has been instrumental in attaining necessary funding for the construction of all three projects; and

WHEREAS, together they have contributed countless time to enhancing their community.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives and the Senate of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, with the approval of the Governor, that the new Valley Road Pedestrian Pathway between Evanson Road and Lantana Square be designated as “Sorenson’s Way”.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that two signs be constructed at either end to make visible the dedication of this pathway.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this resolution be presented to Boyd and Liane Sorenson.

SYNOPSIS

This resolution honors Boyd and Liane Sorenson by designating the new Valley Road Pedestrian Pathway between Evanson Road and Lantana Square as "Sorenson's Way".
