149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 27

RECOGNIZING NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK.

WHEREAS, the Points of Light Foundation is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded in May of 1990; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the foundation is “to inspire, equip and mobilize people to take action that changes the world”; and

WHEREAS, t he foundation sponsors National Volunteer Week, an annual celebration of volunteerism and community service; and

WHEREAS, National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Richard M. Nixon signed an executive order establishing the week as a time to annually recognize and honor volunteers for their outstanding contributions to local communities; and

WHEREAS, April 15 to April 21, will be the 45th annual National Volunteer Week; and

WHEREAS, the practice of regularly volunteering time to community services projects should be promoted throughout Delaware, as it enriches the lives of both those who receive services and those who volunteer.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that we hereby recognize National Volunteer Week and extend our gratitude to the community volunteers throughout the state for their valuable gifts of service

SYNOPSIS

This Resolution recognizes April 15 to April 21, 2018 as National Volunteer Week.
