149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 80

DESIGNATING APRIL 25, 2018 AS ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION DAY IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) are important tools for each Delaware student; and

WHEREAS, the world economy is becoming more STEM based each day and STEM literacy is the best way for Delaware students to prepare themselves to play an active role in society upon graduation from high school and/or college; and

WHEREAS, Delawareans recognize the high quality instruction needed in STEM Education to improve and strengthen the workforce in Delaware’s future economy; and

WHEREAS, a high level of STEM literacy among Delawareans is necessary for Delaware to compete in the global market place; and

WHEREAS, this Resolution recognizes the 80 th anniversary of the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) which is the professional teacher association that advocates an integrative STEM educational approach to connect science, technology, design, math, and engineering in forward thinking ways, meeting the needs of a 21 st century workforce; and

WHEREAS, this Resolution further recognizes the 40 th anniversary of the Technology Student Association (TSA) which is the oldest career and technical student organization dedicated to middle and high school students engaged in STEM education providing challenging competitions, personal development, leadership training, community service, and career opportunities.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that April 25, 2018, is designated as Engineering and Technology Education Day in the State of Delaware.
