149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 79

RECOGNIZING APRIL 25, 2018 AS WORLD WISH DAY IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the mission of Make-A-Wish Delaware is “Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical issues”; and

WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware, and Susquehanna Valley has granted over 6,300 wishes since inception in 1986; and

WHEREAS, the chapter granted a record breaking 331 wishes in fiscal year 2017; and

WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish Delaware has granted 125 wishes to children in New Castle County since 2014; and

WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish Delaware currently has 30 active volunteer Wish Granters throughout the State; and

WHEREAS, World Wish celebrates the anniversary of the birth of the organization, not yet known as Make-A-Wish. The creation of Make-A-Wish was inspired in 1980 by the fulfillment of a wish of 7-year old Chris Greicius, diagnosed with leukemia, who wished to be a policeman for a day. This wish occurred at the end of April 1980; and

WHEREAS, the fulfillment of this wish lead those involved, including Chris’s mother, to continue granting wishes to children who were critically ill. Thus, the Make-A-Wish foundation was formed and has grown to have 62 chapters operating throughout the country and 42 international affiliates on 5 continents.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that we recognize April 25, 2018 as World Wish Day in Delaware.
