149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 87

RECOGNIZING THE WEEK OF MAY 7-14, 2018 AS “TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK” IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, Delaware, has been compared to a diamond, a state endowed with great natural beauty, abundant agriculture, premier beaches, tax free shopping and a vibrant business community; and

WHEREAS, each county is uniquely different offering history, culture, gardens, magnificent mansions, NASCAR, Firefly, incredible birding and arts; and

WHEREAS, tourism is the fifth largest sector of the Delaware economy overall, generating $3.3 billion in GDP to the Delaware Economy; and

WHEREAS, 9 million visitors come to Delaware on an annual basis to enjoy the splendor our state offers; and

WHEREAS, some $504 million in direct tax and fee revenue is derived from tourism in Delaware; and

WHEREAS, hospitality and other tourism related businesses comprise the fourth largest source of private sector employment in Delaware; and

WHEREAS, the Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kent County Tourism and Southern Delaware Tourism do an outstanding job of promoting our state as a travel and tourism destination.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED, by the House of Representatives of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the week of May 7 to May 14, 2018, is “Travel and Tourism Week” in Delaware.

SYNOPSIS

This House Concurrent Resolution recognizes the week of May 7 to May 14, 2018, as “Travel and Tourism Week” in Delaware.
