Planning A Visit

The State Capitol building is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. excluding New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day at which time the building is closed.

Please note, that anyone entering the building must go through the security checkpoint located on the West Side Entrance of the building which faces the Legislative Mall.

Due to security measures currently in place at the Capitol it is advisable to leave all personal items in your vehicle. Everyone visiting the Capitol will be asked to provide a government issued picture identification card.

Tour Information

The Division of Research and First State Heritage Park have prepared the following information:

  • A General Tour Packet focused on the history of Delaware, notable aspects of Legislative Hall and its grounds, and the operation of the General Assembly. 
  • A Student Activity Book with information about the General Assembly and Delaware’s important symbols.

Hard copies of these documents are available on the information table in the main entrance at Legislative Hall or from the Division of Research’s Legislative Information Office on the ground floor of Legislative Hall. Capitol Decorum

  • Visitors should keep in mind that this is a working Capitol.
  • Cameras are allowed in the Capitol tour area but not in the Chambers when the Legislature is in session.
  • Capitol Police will strictly enforce all safety and security guidelines.

Parking

Parking is available in the Delaware Public Archives, the Tatnall Building, and the Del-One Federal Credit Union lots. Parking is limited on session days.  Handicapped parking and handicapped access are located on the east side of the building.  If you need directions, please visit our Hours and Directions page.

Visiting the Capitol

Visitors to the Capitol must use the west door.  The handicapped entrance is located on the east side of the building.

Smoking Policy

Please be advised, there is no smoking permitted on any state grounds or state facility, including vaping.

Kiosk Access

A Kiosk is located in the main lobby.

Cafeteria

The Legislative Hall Café is located on the ground floor of Legislative Hall, click here for more information including hours and menus.  

Vending machines are also located in the cafeteria.

Seating can be limited on session days. Joint Finance and Bond Committee Hearings are televised in the cafeteria.

Restrooms

Restroom facilities are located on all three floors.  All public facilities are handicapped accessible.
