AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 24 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR NURSING PROFESSIONALS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:

Section 1. Amend § 1906, Title 24 of the Delaware Code by making deletions as shown by strike through and insertions as shown by underline as follows:

§ 1906. Delaware Board of Nursing — Powers and duties.

(a) The Board shall:

(18) By regulation, establish requirements for mandatory continuing education. Such requirements must mandate that all nursing professionals who work in adult gerontology in a healthcare setting must complete at least 1 hour of continuing education in each reporting period on the topic of diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. the recognition of sexual or physical abuse, exploitation, or domestic violence of vulnerable populations including, but not limited to, children, senior citizens, or individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or on the reporting obligations under the rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Nursing, § 1731A of Title 24, § 1930A of Title 24, § 903 of Title 16, and any successors thereto, and any other mandatory reporting obligations required by the Board.

SYNOPSIS

This Act amends the continuing education requirements for nursing professionals, mandating that all nursing professionals receive at least one hour of continuing education in each reporting period on the recognition of sexual or physical abuse, exploitation, or domestic violence of vulnerable populations, or on the reporting obligations under the rules and regulations of the Board of Nursing. The Act removes the requirement for nursing professionals who work in adult gerontology to complete continuing education on the topic of diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias.
