HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 106

DESIGNATING APRIL 7-13, 2024, AS “DELAWARE LIBRARY WEEK” IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, Delaware public libraries serve as vital community hubs, offering Delawareans of all ages, abilities, and interests the opportunity to connect with others, learn new skills, and pursue their passions; and

WHEREAS, Delaware libraries continually evolve to meet the changing needs of their patrons, are champions of diversity and inclusivity, providing collections, programs, services, and spaces that reflect the diversity of our population; and

WHEREAS, Delaware libraries support economic progress by supporting job seekers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses, contributing to the prosperity and vitality of our state; and

WHEREAS, school libraries provide essential resources, support literacy development, advance media literacy, and cultivate a love of learning among students, laying the foundation for academic success and lifelong learning; and

WHEREAS, academic libraries support research, innovation, and scholarly exchange, enriching the intellectual life of our state; and

WHEREAS, Delaware library workers work tirelessly to provide trusted service to the people of Delaware.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that we proclaim April 7-13, 2024, as “Delaware Library Week”, and encourage all Delawareans to explore their local libraries, participate in library programs and events, and celebrate the transformative power of libraries.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that that we commend the library workers of Delaware for their tireless dedication to excellence, accessibility, creativity, and relevance, which makes our libraries impactful to their communities, and proclaim April 9, 2024, as Delaware Library Workers’ Day.

SYNOPSIS

This concurrent resolution designates April 7-13, 2024 as "Delaware Library Week" in the State of Delaware.
