HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 142

RECOGNIZING THE NONPROFITS OF DELAWARE FOR SUPPORTING THE STATE AND THE CRITICAL RESOURCES THEY PROVIDE TO DELAWAREANS.

WHEREAS, the over 1,200 nonprofit small businesses are critical drivers of economic prosperity and quality of life for the State of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, local communities rely on nonprofits for education services, workforce development, health and social services, attracting visitors to Delaware, and supporting government programs for housing, mental health and behavioral health; and

WHEREAS, nonprofits spend nearly $3 billion in the local economy and employ over 77,000 people with an additional 239,000 Delawareans working in nonprofits as volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Delaware nonprofits provide vital services through contracts with the State of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, rising market costs affect the funding available for nonprofits and limit the services they are able to provide; and

WHEREAS, states across the nation are adopting policy changes that create measurable improvements for contracted service providers.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, the General Assembly recognizes the nonprofits of Delaware for supporting the State and the critical resources they provide to Delawareans.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly recognizes the challenges that nonprofits face to generate funding in order to provide services to communities throughout the State.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly commends the nonprofit sector for its contributions to enrich Delaware’s quality of life.

SYNOPSIS

This House Concurrent Resolution recognizes the nonprofits of Delaware for supporting the State and the critical resources they provide to Delawareans.
