SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 191

PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 6, 2024, AS "NATIONAL COACHES DAY" IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the purpose of National Coaches Day is to honor the men and women who inspire us to work harder and do our best; and

WHEREAS, across the country in every community, a coach organizes teams, plans practices and training, and motivates players to strive to be the best they can be; and

WHEREAS, the first National Coaches Day was recognized by President Richard Nixon in 1972; and

WHEREAS, the proclamation President Nixon signed stated: "Coaches are highly qualified teachers—in highly specialized fields. But more than that, they are friends and counselors who help instill in their players important attitudes that will serve them all their lives”; and

WHEREAS, 93% of American parents think sports coaches create a positive impact on youth’s lives; and

WHEREAS, 87% of parents say their child looks up to his or her sports coach as a role model; and

WHEREAS, parents think coaches play a vital role in inspiring a young player’s love of the game; and

WHEREAS, the majority of parents believe coaches teach their players important life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, dedication, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, 61% of Americans think coaches do not receive the recognition and appreciation they deserve.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that October 6, 2024, be proclaimed “National Coaches Day” in the State of Delaware.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature recognizes all sports coaches in the State of Delaware.

SYNOPSIS
