SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 111
PROCLAIMING THURSDAY, MAY 19, 2022 AS GLOBAL ACCESSIBILITY AWARENESS DAY IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, the purpose of Global Accessibility is to bring awareness to digital access and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, this global event shines a light on digital access and inclusion on the more than 1 billion people with disabilities and impairments; and
WHEREAS, every user deserves a first-rate digital experience on the web; and
WHEREAS, someone with a disability should be able to experience web-based services, content, and other digital services with the same successful outcome as those without disabilities; and
WHEREAS, from a civil rights and business perspective, people with disabilities are underserved by today’s digital products; and
WHEREAS, the causes of most common accessibility failures are related to low contrast text, missing images, empty links, empty buttons, and missing document language; and
WHEREAS, approximately 98.1% of home pages have at least one web content accessibility guideline failure; and
WHEREAS, disabilities that suffer most from digital access errors are visual, hearing, motor and cognitive impairments; and
WHEREAS, Thursday, May 19, 2022 has been recognized as Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 151 st General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the Legislature affirms the importance of Global Accessibility Awareness, and hereby designates Thursday, May 19, 2022 as “Global Accessibility Awareness” Day in the State of Delaware.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature encourages expanded efforts to keep Delaware residents properly informed about digital access inclusion awareness.
SYNOPSIS
This resolution proclaims Thursday, May 19, 2022 as Global Accessibility Awareness Day in the State of Delaware.
