HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 13

RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF MARCH 2023 AS “NATIONAL DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY MONTH” IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, currently 186,592 Delawareans 18 and over have developmental disabilities. Developmental disabilities include mobility, cognition, independent living, hearing, vision, and self-care; and

WHEREAS, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), approximately 24 percent or 1 in 4 adult Delawareans live with a developmental disability; and

WHEREAS, in Delaware, people with developmental disabilities have higher risks of depression, obesity, diabetes, and substance use; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware Developmental Disability Council (DDC) aims to address the unmet needs of people with developmental disabilities through system-wide advocacy, planning, and demonstration projects; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Delaware DDC is to promote and embrace inclusion, equality, and empowerment; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware DDC is committed to improving the quality of services for this population in Delaware and to serve as an advocate and an instrument of system change.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the General Assembly hereby designate March 2023, as “National Developmental Disability Month” in the State of Delaware, in order to continue to raise public and professional awareness about the importance of including people with developmental disabilities in the conversation for equity and acceptance.

SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution recognizes the month of March 2023 as "National Developmental Disability Month" in Delaware.
