SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 16
RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF MARCH 2023 AS “KIDNEY MONTH” IN DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, March is recognized as National Kidney Month, an important opportunity to raise public awareness and understanding of kidney diseases; and
WHEREAS, nearly 37 million U.S. adults have chronic kidney disease (CKD), and 90% of those people may not know they have it; and
WHEREAS, diabetes and high blood pressure are two of the main causes of CKD; and
WHEREAS, CKD symptoms may not appear until the final stages when patients need dialysis or a kidney transplant; and
WHEREAS, symptoms do not present until kidney damage is advanced. When symptoms emerge, they include fatigue, swelling in the legs and feet, and weight gain, among others; and
WHEREAS, regular physical exams and blood tests can help identify CKD early; and
WHEREAS, kidney health can be improved by reducing red meat consumption, fast food meals, and sugary drinks while eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking mainly water; and
WHEREAS, increasing public awareness and understanding of kidney disease could lead to early diagnosis and care for some of the most vulnerable populations and empower and educate those at risk on how they can manage it.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the members of the General Assembly hereby recognize the month of March 2023 as "Kidney Month" in the State of Delaware.
