SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 43

RECOGNIZING THE EDUCATIONAL EQUITY IMPACT OF THE COMMUNITY EDUCATION BUILDING AS A SIGNIFICANT INNOVATION FOR THE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES OF WILMINGTON AND DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the Community Education Building (“CEB”) is an educational nonprofit organization providing direct wraparound services for over 1,300 students and their families in the City of Wilmington; and

WHEREAS, CEB partners with four resident schools, Kuumba Academy Charter School, Great Oaks Charter School, University of Delaware Associates in the Arts Program, and High Road School, as well as three external schools, Freire Charter School, First State Montessori Academy, and Positive Change Academy, to provide direct services to students; and

WHEREAS, CEB partners with resident mission-aligned nonprofits, including ChristianaCare, Delaware Guidance Services, Network Connect, Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education, The Summer Learning Collaborative, Teach for America, and Code Differently to coordinate efforts on behalf of students’ physical, mental, social-emotional, and academic wellbeing; and

WHEREAS, CEB provides direct services such as housing support, parent education, benefits navigation, food security, and career navigation to over 380 families through its Family Resource Center and food pantry; and

WHEREAS, CEB provides direct services to students in the form of 1:1 student navigation, full-time social-emotional support, connection to teachers and parents, and individualized academic support through its Student Advocacy System; and

WHEREAS, CEB partners with over 40 external agencies and community-based organizations with personal case management to ensure that students and families have access to and benefit from opportunities, support, resources, and services; and

WHEREAS, the CEB model is one that could be replicated by any school in any District as one of holistic wraparound educational support with the goal of student success.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152 ^nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the Community Education Building receives appropriate recognition for its work in educational equity impact and innovation for the students and their families in Delaware.

SYNOPSIS

This resolution recognizes the Community Education Building, located at 1200 N. French Street, in Wilmington, Delaware, together with its partners, as a leader in educational innovation and impact in the lives of students and their families. They are recognized for their work in providing direct wraparound services to students and families, their collaborative model with resident partner nonprofits, and their on-site support services for their four schools.
