SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1

TO

SENATE SUBSTITUTE NO. 2

FOR

SENATE BILL NO. 8

AMEND Senate Substitute No. 2 to Senate Bill No. 8 by deleting lines 69 through 72 in their entirety and substituting in lieu thereof the following:

“ (10) “Medical creditor” means any large health care facility   that provides health care services and to whom the consumer owes money for health care services, or the large health care facility that provided health care services and to whom the consumer owes money for health care services, or the large health care facility that provided health care services and to whom the consumer previously owed money if the medical debt has been purchased by one or more debt buyers. ”

FURTHER AMEND Senate Substitute No. 2 to Senate Bill No. 8 by deleting lines 78 and 79 in their entirety and substituting in lieu therein the following:

“ collector. Medical debt collector does not include the Division of Child Support Services or an individual filing a child support action under Title 13. Medical debt collector does not include anyone collecting debt charged to a credit card. ”

SYNOPSIS

This amendment clarifies the definitions of medical creditor and medical debt collector and makes a technical correction.
