SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 112

RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING THE CHINESE NEW YEAR 2024.

WHEREAS, February 10, 2024, begins the celebration of Chinese New Year (also referred to as the Lunar New Year) and festivities will continue through February 24, 2024, following the lunar cycle; and

WHEREAS, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, the fifth animal in the Chinese zodiac, symbolizing strength, health, and good luck; and

WHEREAS, the Chinese New Year is a time to reunite with family, recognize traditions, honor ancestors, celebrate the past year, and invite good luck and prosperity for the coming year; and

WHEREAS, the celebration of Chinese New Year ends with the Lantern Festival, characterized by lion and dragon dances, parades, fireworks, and colorful lanterns; and

WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is celebrated not just by Chinese people, but is widely observed by many Asian communities all around the world; and

WHEREAS, Delaware’s Asian American community is a crucial piece of the State’s rich cultural tapestry.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152 nd General Assembly, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the General Assembly recognizes and celebrates the Chinese New Year.

This resolution recognizes and celebrates the Chinese New Year 2024.
