HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 81

RECOGNIZING THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE OFFICE OF ANIMAL WELFARE.

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware, in its commitment to the well-being of companion animals, established the Office of Animal Welfare in 2013, recognizing the profound importance of animal welfare; and

WHEREAS, the Office of Animal Welfare, an agency of the Division of Public Health, coordinates programs and policies that protect animals from abuse and neglect, reduces pet homelessness, and improves the quality of life for pets and people across Delaware; and

WHEREAS, Delaware Animal Services, operating under the auspices of the Office of Animal Welfare, has been a cornerstone of these efforts, through crucial enforcement of Delaware laws, and by providing resources, support and services to the people of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, Delaware Animal Services plays a vital role in reuniting lost pets with their families, promoting responsible pet ownership, and tirelessly working to create safer, more compassionate communities for all residents; and

WHEREAS, the Office of Animal Welfare’s Spay Neuter Program has neutered over 35,000 pets, and vaccinated over 27,000 pets against rabies since 2013, making significant efforts to reduce pet overpopulation and enhance public health, in collaboration with local animal shelters, rescues and the veterinary community; and

WHEREAS, the Office of Animal Welfare advocates for strong animal protection laws and fosters community engagement to promote humane care for Delaware’s pets.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the members of the Delaware General Assembly hereby recognize the 10 ^th Anniversary of the Office of Animal Welfare and its commitment to fostering a culture of responsible pet ownership and ensuring the welfare of our beloved animal companions.

This Concurrent Resolution recognizes the 10th Anniversary of the Office of Animal Welfare and its commitment to fostering a culture of responsible pet ownership and ensuring the welfare of our beloved animal companions.
