SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 6

COMMENDING THE DELAWARE STATE DENTAL SOCIETY ON THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF ITS 14TH ANNUAL GIVE KIDS A SMILE PROGRAM RECOGNIZING ITS CONTINUING EFFORTS.

WHEREAS, on Saturday, February 11, 2017, the Delaware State Dental Society (DSDS) held its 14th annual Give Kids a Smile Program; and

WHEREAS, the 14 th Annual Give Kids a Smile Program was considered a rousing success by its organizers, having served 78 children in Delaware and involved over 44 volunteers and 6 organizations in 2017; and

WHEREAS, 19 dentists, 23 hygienists, 14 technicians, 2 auxiliary staff, and 25 Del Tech students volunteered in 2017; and

WHEREAS, through the Give Kids a Smile Program, the DSDS was able to provide $32,000 in free dentistry services to Delaware’s children in 2017; and

WHEREAS, Patterson Dental and DENTSPLY has donated $8,600 in equipment and supplies; and

WHEREAS, the DSDS has served over 1,378 children through the Give Kids a Smile Program and involved over 1,000 dentists, hygienists, technicians, auxiliary staff, and Del Tech students as volunteers to make a difference in Delaware’s oral healthcare; and

WHEREAS, with the support of the ADA Foundation’s Give Kids a Smile program, launched nationally by the American Dental Association in 2003, more than 5 million underserved children have received free oral health services over the last 13 years. These free services are provided by approximately 10,000 dentists annually, along with 30,000 other dental team members. This year in Milford, Delaware, Dr. Norman “Sam” Steward’s office of the Delaware State Dental Society, coordinated with Chairperson, Dr. Douglas Ditty, another successful event; and

WHEREAS, children and their parents were educated that oral disease is preventable and all were provided with literature so that families could establish a dental home; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly supports the DSDS in its efforts to help Delaware’s children.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the Delaware State Dental Society is commended for the achievements of the 14th Annual Give Kids a Smile Program and the Senate and House of Representatives wish them continuing success in their 15th Annual Program scheduled for February 2018.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be prepared by the Secretary of the Senate and presented to the Delaware State Dental Society upon its passage.

SYNOPSIS

This Resolution commends the Delaware State Dental Society on the success of its 14th Annual Give Kids a Smile Program and recognizes its continuing efforts to improve the dental health of Delaware’s children.
