149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 14

RECOGNIZING THE WEEK OF APRIL 9 THROUGH APRIL 15, 2017, AS “NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK”.

WHEREAS, libraries are trusted and treasured institutions, and library workers and librarians fuel efforts to strengthen their communities, campuses and schools; and

WHEREAS, librarians level the playing field for all who seek information and access to technologies, especially as our society is at a critical juncture regarding the changing information landscape and the skills needed to thrive in our digital world; and

WHEREAS, libraries and librarians are providing more opportunities for community engagement and delivering new services that connect closely with patrons’ needs; and

WHEREAS, libraries and librarians open a world of possibilities through innovative Makerspaces, STEM programming, job-seeking and small business resources, and the power of reading; and

WHEREAS, libraries work to serve all community members, including people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, and the most vulnerable in our communities, offering services that transform communities, open minds and promote inclusion and diversity; and

WHEREAS, Delaware librarians, library workers, and patrons are joining their colleagues across the nation in celebrating “National Library Week”;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the week of April 9 through April 15, 2017, shall be recognized as “National Library Week” in the State of Delaware.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Delawareans are encouraged to visit a library and take advantage of the library’s unlimited possibilities, explore new technologies, and engage in conversations and partnerships with librarians and library workers.

SYNOPSIS

This House Concurrent Resolution recognizes the week of April 9 through 15, 2017, as “National Library Week.”
