HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 17

RECOGNIZING THE WEEK OF APRIL 3 – 7, 2017 AS WORK ZONE AWARENESS WEEK IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS , Work Zone Awareness Week was established by the Federal Highway Administration, the American Traffic Safety Services Association, and the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials as a national event fifteen years ago to focus attention on work zone safety and work zone workers; and

WHEREAS, the number of work zone fatalities has dropped significantly since the event’s inception; and

WHEREAS, road work is recognized as a hazardous occupation; and

WHEREAS, there are still a considerable number of individuals injured or killed in roadway work zones each year; and

WHEREAS , this year’s theme in Delaware of “Slow Down! We have families too.” is an important reminder to exercise caution while driving through work zones and to contribute to the safety of work zone workers; and

WHEREAS, Delaware’s work zone workers are dedicated to improving the state’s transportation network; and

WHEREAS, drivers should be encouraged to practice safe driving practices especially with the commencement of the spring construction season; and

WHEREAS, it is important to urge all citizens to slow down and devote their undivided attention to work zones and watch for the men and women who are working to improve our state’s roads, highways, and bridges.

NOW, THEREFORE;

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives and State Senate of the 149 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that we do recognize the week of April 3 – 7 as Work Zone Awareness Week in Delaware, and call this observance to the attention of our citizens.

SYNOPSIS

This Resolution recognizes the week of April 3 - 7 as Work Zone Awareness Week in Delaware.
