149th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 25

DESIGNATING APRIL 6, 2017 AS WILMINGTON BLUE ROCKS DAY IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the State of Delaware and the City of Wilmington appreciate the significant value local athletic teams contribute to our community; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Blue Rocks have a significant historical value to the City of Wilmington and the State of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, the original Wilmington Blue Rocks were a Class B Interstate League affiliate of the Philadelphia A’s, and played from 1940 to 1952; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Blue Rocks returned to Delaware as a minor league baseball team, playing its first game on April 8, 1993, at Winston-Salem’s Ernie Shore Field; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Blue Rocks have played at Judy Johnson Field at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium in Wilmington’s Riverfront district; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Blue Rocks are an affiliate of the Kansas City Royal’s and have been the home to many great players, such as Mike Sweeney, Raul Mondesi and Wil Myers; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Blue Rocks have a great winning percentage, winning 8 Northern Division titles in 12 years and 4 Carolina League championships; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Blue Rocks have provided affordable family-friendly entertainment, and have created life-long memories for many Delawareans; and

WHEREAS, the Wilmington Blue Rocks will begin their 25 th season on April 6, 2017.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 149 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that we hereby designate April 6, 2017, as “Wilmington Blue Rocks Day” in Delaware.
