HOUSE BILL NO. 282

AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 14 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO FUNDING FOR ENRICHMENT AT HIGH POVERTY SCHOOLS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:

Section 1. Amend Chapter 17, Title 14 of the Delaware Code by making deletions as shown by strike through and insertions as shown by underline as follows:

§ 1726. Field trip funding for high poverty schools.

(a) The State shall annually appropriate funds for high-poverty schools to offset the cost of enrichment activities that take place outside of the school. Funds shall be appropriated at the rate of $25 per pupil for all of the students in a high-poverty school.

(b) For purposes of this section, “high-poverty school” means any public school where 50% or more of the total student population are from low-income families.

SYNOPSIS

In order to support enrichment activities such as field trips for students at high-poverty schools, this bill would require the State to provide $25 per student to high poverty schools to be used for the purpose of educational and enrichment field trips.
