SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29

PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 2018 "DYSAUTONOMIA AWARENESS MONTH" IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, dysautonomia is a group of medical conditions that result in a malfunction of the autonomic nervous system, which is responsible for “automatic” bodily functions such as respiration, heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, temperature control, and more; and

WHEREAS, dysautonomia impacts over 70 million people around the world and includes conditions such as Diabetic Autonomic Neuropathy, Vasovagal Syncope, Pure Autonomic Failure, and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome; and

WHEREAS, dysautonomia impacts individuals of all ages, genders, races, and backgrounds, including many individuals living in Delaware; and

WHEREAS, dysautonomia can be disabling, and this disability can result in social isolation, stress on individuals and families impacted by dysautonomia, and financial hardships; and

WHEREAS, some forms of dysautonomia can result in death, causing tremendous pain and suffering for those impacted and their loved ones; and

WHEREAS, increased awareness about dysautonomia will help individuals get diagnosed and treated earlier, save lives, and foster support for individuals and families coping with dysautonomia in Delaware; and

WHEREAS, Dysautonomia International, a non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of individuals living with dysautonomia, encourages communities around the world to recognize October as Dysautonomia Awareness Month; and

WHEREAS, the Senate of the 149 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware seeks to recognize individuals and families living with dysautonomia and support the contributions of medical professionals and those living with dysautonomia who are working to educate Delawareans about dysautonomia.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 149th General Assembly of the State of Delaware that October 2018 is proclaimed Dysautonomia Awareness Month.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate cause a suitable copy of this Resolution to be prepared for and presented to Dysautonomia International.

SYNOPSIS

This Resolution proclaims October 2018 "Dysautonomia Awareness Month" in Delaware.
