150th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 39

COMMENDING THE DELAWARE STATE DENTAL SOCIETY ON THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF ITS 16TH ANNUAL “GIVE KIDS A SMILE” PROGRAM AND RECOGNIZING ITS CONTINUING EFFORTS.

WHEREAS, the Delaware State Dental Society (DSDS) held its 16th annual “Give Kids a Smile” program during the months of February, March, and April 2019 in dental offices located throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, the 16 th annual “Give Kids a Smile” program was considered a rousing success by its organizers, having served 242 children in Delaware and involving 110 volunteers and six dental offices in 2019; and

WHEREAS, 25 dentists, 33 hygienists, 24 technicians, and 28 auxiliary staff volunteered in 2019; and

WHEREAS, through the 2019 “Give Kids a Smile” program, the DSDS was able to provide over $130,700 in free dentistry services to Delaware’s children; and

WHEREAS, the DSDS has served over 1,867 children through the “Give Kids a Smile” program and has involved over 1,100 dentists, hygienists, technicians, and auxiliary staff as volunteers to make a difference in Delaware’s oral healthcare; and

WHEREAS, with the support of the American Dental Association (ADA) Foundation’s “Give Kids a Smile” program, launched nationally by the ADA in 2003, more than five million underserved children have received free oral health services over the last sixteen years. These free services are provided by approximately 10,000 dentists annually, along with 30,000 other dental team members. This year at the offices of Graylyn Dental in Wilmington, Mercer/Sydell Dental in Dover, and Dental Associates of Delaware in Middletown, Hockessin, and Wilmington, the Delaware State Dental Society coordinated another successful event; and

WHEREAS, children and their parents were taught that oral disease is preventable and all were provided with literature so that families could establish a dental home; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly supports the DSDS in its efforts to help Delaware’s children;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 150 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the Delaware State Dental Society is commended for the achievements of the 16th Annual “Give Kids a Smile” program and the Senate and House of Representatives wish them continuing success in their 17th annual program, scheduled for February 2020.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, upon its passage, a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation to the Delaware State Dental Society.

SYNOPSIS

This Senate Concurrent Resolution commends the Delaware State Dental Society on the success of its 16th annual “Give Kids a Smile” program and recognizes its continuing efforts to improve the dental health of Delaware’s children.
