150th GENERAL ASSEMBLY
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 55
RECOGNIZING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.
WHEREAS, the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) will be celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2019; and
WHEREAS, the American Legion Auxiliary was founded and formed on November 10, 1919; and
WHEREAS, this group is the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization; and
WHEREAS, members of this organization are committed to enhancing the lives of veterans and their families, whether they are at home or abroad, promoting patriotism, sponsoring youth programs such as Girls State and supporting The American Legion; and
WHEREAS, the Delaware Girls State Program trains high school girls for leadership roles, and has been doing so since 1942; and
WHEREAS, in this program the girls also learn about the fundamentals of the legislative process, the three branches of government, and parliamentary procedures; and
WHEREAS, the ALA is also dedicated to giving back to their community and members have donated 6.2 million hours of their time nationally to serving veterans and the military; and
WHEREAS, the ALA has presented more than $1.6 million in annual scholarships; and
WHEREAS, the ALA also raised $4.4 million for veterans services through the distribution of handmade poppies; and
WHEREAS, the ALA will be celebrating their anniversary nationally starting with centennial events on November 10th, culminating in August 2020 with the National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, they will also be celebrating this milestone in Delaware on November 16, 2019 with a celebratory dinner.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 150th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, recognizing the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the American Legion Auxiliary in 2019 in the State of Delaware.
SYNOPSIS
This concurrent resolution recognizes the 100th anniversary of the American Legion Auxiliary in the State of Delaware.
