DELAWARE STATE SENATE

150th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 57

RECOGNIZING THE UNITED STATES DECENNIAL CENSUS AND THE GOVERNOR’S 2020 COMPLETE COUNT COMMISSION.

WHEREAS, under Section 141 of Title 13 of the United State Code, the next federal decennial census will be conducted on April 1, 2020; and,

WHEREAS, the 2020 Census will provide the official count of Delaware’s population; and,

WHEREAS, a complete and accurate count of Delaware’s population is critical to the State because the census count will be used to determine congressional representation, the allocation of significant federal funds to Delaware for an entire decade, state redistricting, and forecasting future transportation and land usage; and,

WHEREAS, the U.S. Census Bureau recommends that each state create a State Complete Count Commission; and,

WHEREAS, the Complete Count Commission shall develop, recommend and assist in the administration of a census outreach strategy to heighten awareness of the 2020 Census and encourage full participation for Delawareans; and,

WHEREAS, the Complete Count Commission will develop strategies to reach previously undercounted populations in Delaware, such as children under the age of 5, single mothers, university students, and the homeless; and,

WHEREAS, it is vitally important for the State to do everything it can to ensure that every Delawarean is counted in the upcoming census;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Senate of the 150 ^th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the Governor’s Complete Count Commission be recognized for its ongoing work and dedication to ensure the decennial count be conducted in accordance to the law, as outlined, in the United State Code.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the General Assembly do hereby commend and thank the numerous stakeholders that make up the Complete Count Commission here in the State of Delaware.
