150th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 74

RECOGNIZING 350DE, A GRASSROOTS ENVIRONMENTAL COALITION DEDICATED TO ENDING THE USE OF FOSSIL FUELS WORLDWIDE.

WHEREAS, an overwhelming 97% of scientists agree that climate change is being caused by human greenhouse gas emissions; and

WHEREAS, the name 350 relates to the upper threshold of carbon dioxide ppm concentration that scientists consider safe for the planet; and

WHEREAS, 350 has been instrumental in convincing large institutions to divest from fossil fuels; and

WHEREAS, formed in 2007, 350 has extended to more than 188 countries and has been instrumental in convincing large institutions to divest from the fossil fuel industry, with the goal of a transition to full renewable energy; and

WHEREAS, formed in January 2017, 350DE is the first Delaware Chapter, championed by a group of passionate students at the Tatnall School; and

WHEREAS, the students of 350DE have fulfilled the organizations mantra of “Think Globally, Act Locally” by educating and meeting with local advocacy groups, schools, and churches in Delaware; and

WHEREAS, the students have demonstrated their dedication to ending the use of fossil fuels through their participation in the March for Science and their various on campus advocacy efforts.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 150 th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that its members do hereby commend the students in 350DE for their hard work and advocacy in ending the use of fossil fuels worldwide.

SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution recognizes 350DE, which is a grassroots environmental coalition dedicated to ending the use of fossil fuels worldwide.
