HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 31

HONORING MELISSA HOPKINS FOR BEING NAMED DELAWARE'S 2021 MOTHER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, American Mothers, Inc., presented its first Mother of the Year Award in 1935; and

WHEREAS, the nonprofit organization has recognized an inspirational mother every year since, drawing on nominees from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and

WHEREAS, American Mothers, Inc., selects an “admirable” mother who represents a mother’s unconditional love, inner strength, and courage; and

WHEREAS, American Mothers, Inc., awarded Melissa Hopkins the 2021 Delaware Mother of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Melissa Hopkins is a lifelong Delawarean, wife, and mother to a son, Samuel; and

WHEREAS, Melissa Hopkins is the Executive Vice President of Sector Advancement for the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement; and

WHEREAS, Melissa Hopkins currently serves as the Board Chair of the Newark Day Nursery and Children’s Center and on the board of her son’s school, Christ the Teacher Catholic School; and

WHEREAS, Melissa Hopkins endeavors to instill the value of service in her son, Samuel; and

WHEREAS, Melissa Hopkins prioritizes family experiences, such as reading out loud, going camping, and playing board games, when spending time with her son; and

WHEREAS, the 151 ^st General Assembly of the State of Delaware recognizes and commends the values of service and time spent with family that Melissa Hopkins exemplifies.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the 151 ^st General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, congratulates Melissa Hopkins for being named Delaware’s 2021 Mother of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Melissa Hopkins.
