SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 68

RECOGNIZING JANUARY 16, 2022 AS "RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DAY" IN DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees religious liberty to the people of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Preamble to the Delaware Constitution reads, “Through Divine goodness, all people have by nature the rights of worshiping and serving their Creator according to the dictates of their consciences, of enjoying and defending life and liberty, of acquiring and protecting reputation and property, and in general of obtaining objects suitable to their condition, without injury by one to another; and as these rights are essential to their welfare, for due exercise thereof, power is inherent in them; and therefore all just authority in the institutions of political society is derived from the people, and established with their consent, to advance their happiness; and they may for this end, as circumstances require, from time to time, alter their Constitution of government.”; and

WHEREAS, the 148 th General Assembly passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 86 commemorating July 30, 2016 as the 60 th Anniversary of “In God We Trust” as the official motto of the United States; and

WHEREAS, millions of people from all parts of the world have come to the United States fleeing religious persecution and seeking freedom to worship; and

WHEREAS, since the historic signing of the International Religious Freedom Act in 1998, international religious freedom has enjoyed bipartisan support in the U.S. Congress and successive U.S. Presidential Administrations.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 151st General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that January 16, 2022, is recognized as “Religious Freedom Day” in Delaware.

SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution recognizes January 16, 2022, as "Religious Freedom Day" in Delaware.
