SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 77

RECOGNIZING AUGUST 23RD AS RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY IN THE STATE OF DELAWARE.

WHEREAS, random acts of kindness are the tender and compassionate things that we do unexpectedly for the joy of doing the kind act itself; and

WHEREAS, the good that random acts of kindness can create caused Will Glennon to establish the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, a small, nonprofit in Denver, Colorado, that seeks to make kindness the norm; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is to make kindness the norm in our schools, workplaces, homes and communities, and is working toward that goal by creating free content that promotes kindness toward others, and teaches important social emotional learning skills to children; and

WHEREAS, Will Glennon went on to establish World Kindness USA, whose motto is “The Courage to be Kind;” and

WHEREAS, World Kindness USA’s goal is to establish goodwill ambassadors to connect with organizations to create collective diverse networks in each community to promote kindness in schools, the workplace, and communities at large; and

WHEREAS, studies have shown that performing acts of kindness can increase happiness, boost one’s personal satisfaction, and encourage altruism; and

WHEREAS, random acts of kindness brighten a stranger’s day; and

WHEREAS, random acts of kindness by individuals contribute to the good health of our community and diminish the effect of diseases and disorders, both psychological and physical; and

WHEREAS, the reduction in stress in our daily lives through random acts of kindness can reverse feelings of depression, hostility, and isolation; and

WHEREAS, a national Random Acts of Kindness Day is becoming recognized, not only in many parts of America, but also around the world; and

WHEREAS, this effort will bring our residents closer together, thereby will have an immeasurable and positive, long-term impact on the well-being of the State of Delaware.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 151st General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that August 23 rd is designated as “Random Acts of Kindness Day”

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the public be urged to observe this day and celebrate with appropriate individual or group activities.

SYNOPSIS

This Senate Resolution recognizes August 23rd as "Random Acts of Kindness Day" in the State of Delaware and encourages the public to participate in random acts of kindness to increase happiness, unite the community, and increase the well-being of our residents.
