SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 22

 

COMMENDING RONNI K. COHEN FOR BEING SELECTED DELAWARE'S STATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 2000 AND COMMENDING EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS approximately 7,000 teachers work each day with 112,000 children who attend 184 Delaware public schools in 19 school districts; and

WHEREAS teachers strive for excellence in their profession when they know that the community supports them and appreciates their efforts on behalf of our children; and

WHEREAS the Teacher of the Year program identifies building and districts representatives who embody the best qualities of all Delaware teachers; and

WHEREAS the Delaware State Teacher of the Year is chosen for possessing a superior ability to inspire and nurture students with a love of learning and for having won the admiration and respect of students, fellow teachers, school administrators, and the parents of students; and

WHEREAS the 2000 State Teacher of the Year has been teaching in the Brandywine School District since 1969 and since 1998 has taught economics and entrepeneurship to fourth, fifth and sixth graders at Claymont Elementary School; and

WHEREAS the 2000 State Teacher of the Year is the 1993 recipient of INC. Magazine’s National Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year, and in 1994 was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Delaware Council of Social Studies; and

WHEREAS Ronni K. Cohen of the Brandywine School District has been named as Delaware State Teacher of the Year for 2000, as part of the National Teacher of the Year program – the oldest and most prestigious award program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching; and

WHEREAS each of the other eighteen school districts has chosen a 2000 District Teacher of the Year, namely: Cindy Langshaw, Appoquinimink School District; Andrea Haynes, Caesar Rodney School District; Gerald T. Peden, Cape Henlopen School District; Patrik Williams, Capital School District; JoAnne Deshon, Christina School District; Melissa Ernest, Colonial School District; William David Mills, Delmar School District; Loriann White, Indian River School District; Michael P. Boyd, Lake Forest School District; Susan Fewell, Laurel School District; Mary Louise O’Bier, Milford School District; David S. Alick, New Castle County Vocational Technical School District; Stephanie Przygocki, POLYTECH School District; Gregory Hills, Red Clay School District; Valerie Turner, Seaford School District; Crystal H. Brown, Smyrna School District; Sandra W. Furbush, Sussex County Vocational Technical School District; and Carolyn Whitt, Woodbridge School District;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 140th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that commendations and appreciation are hereby extended to the State Teacher of the Year and to the District Teachers of the Year for 2000.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, upon passage of this Resolution, a suitably prepared copy be forwarded to Ronni K. Cohen, 2000 State Teacher of the Year, and to each 2000 District Teacher of the Year.

SYNOPSIS

This Resolution commends the State and District Teachers of the Year.
