HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

140th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.

CONGRATULATING REVEREND ROBERT D. KENNEY, O.S.F.S., ON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE DELAWARE SPORTS HALL OF FAME.

(Three-Fifths of all members elected to each house thereof concurring therein):

WHEREAS, Father Robert Kenney (Salesianum ’42) has served the Salesianum community as a student, teacher, Math Department Chair, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, Principal and President; and

WHEREAS, Father Kenney "found the time" to serve as Salesianum’s baseball coach from 1958 to 1991; and

WHEREAS, Father Kenney had winning seasons in as many years as he coached; and

WHEREAS, Father Kenney’s 411 career victories exceed any other coach in the history of high school baseball in Delaware, and his teams had an astonishing .711 winning percentage; and

WHEREAS, Father Kenney’s Salesianum baseball teams won two State titles in 1976 and 1979; and

WHEREAS, Father Kenney was honored as the Delaware "Coach of the Year" in 1982; and

WHEREAS, as a result of all of these accomplishments, Father Kenney was inducted into the Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame on June 10, 1995 at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium in Wilmington; and

WHEREAS, Father Kenney will be inducted in to the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 13, 1999; and

WHEREAS, this honor recognizes just a small part of Father Kenney’s contributions and accomplishments as a priest, leader and educator.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 140^th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, do hereby notify the Salesianum community that we congratulate Father Kenney on his induction into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame.
