HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 10

 

CONGRATULATING NAAMANS LITTLE LEAGUE ON ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY.

 

 

WHEREAS, Naamans Little League was founded in 1957 with a league composed of four teams and a total of 60 boys, with over 5,000  players participating in the last 50 years; and

WHEREAS, games were first played at Cohen’s Field, located at Naamans and Ebright Roads; and

WHEREAS, as the league grew, Pennington Field was constructed on Naamans Road in 1962, but was abandoned in 1967 to make way for the Channin Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, the League was then allowed to use a plot of 15 acres on Silverside Road near Concord Pike where Field #1 was built, followed by Field #2 in 1966 and Field #3 in 1970; and

WHEREAS, the organization grew so rapidly that by 1968 Naamans Little League had to split into two leagues thereby forming the Brandywine Little League, then adding the Senior League Program in 1970, Tee Ball in 1975 and a Big League Team in 1976; and

WHEREAS, the league had to relocate in 1974 to its current site on land donated to the league by Frank Acierno; and

WHEREAS, Naamans  Little League was represented in the Little League World Series in 2003 and the Big League World Series in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Naamans Little League was State Champions in 1978, 2003, 2005 and 2006; and

WHEREAS, Naamans Little League has had six 12-year old District Championship teams and over 50 other District Championship teams; and

WHEREAS, Naamans Little League 8, 9 and 10-year old All-Star teams won the District Championship in 2004, 2005 and 2006 respectively; and

WHEREAS, currently, there are 43 teams and 515 players ranging in age from 6 to 18 years and over 150 volunteers involved at all levels.

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 144th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that  we hereby congratulate the Naamans Little League on their 50th anniversary.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this Resolution be presented to the President of the Naamans Little League.
