CONGRATULATING THE 2006-2007 DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR FIRST NATIONAL TOURNAMENT CONTEST FOR A FEMALE TEAM IN DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY HISTORY. |
WHEREAS,
the Delaware State University (DSU) women’s basketball team captivated a
national television audience with a hard-fought 62-47 loss to Southeastern
Conference champion Vanderbilt in the opening round of the 2007 National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament in East Lansing, MI. It was the first national tournament contest
for a female team in
WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets, seeded 15th in the tournament’s Greensboro region, gave the #2 seeded Commodores all they could handle until late in the game; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Ed Davis and valiant Lady Hornets held their heads high as they walked off the court to a standing ovation, while earning the respect of ESPN’s courtside and studio commentators; and
WHEREAS, the NCAA Tournament loss did nothing to take away the luster of Delaware State’s first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship eight days earlier; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets swept past Norfolk State and Florida A&M before taking on upstart Morgan State in the MEAC title game; and
WHEREAS,
“I am so proud of this team,” said
WHEREAS, the 2006-2007 season began with nine newcomers and just four returning regulars from the team that fell to Coppin State in the 2006 MEAC championship; and
WHEREAS, Davis, who just completed his seventh season as head coach of the Lady Hornets, has a 123-86 record at DSU. His .588 winning percentage is tops among all coaches in team history.

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 144th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that we hereby congratulate and commend the Lady Hornets of Delaware State University on their first national tournament contest for a female team in Delaware State University history.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that commendations are extended to Coach Ed Davis, all the
Lady Hornet players, coaches and staff, and to the entire

IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that suitably prepared copies of this Resolution be
presented upon its passage to Coach Ed Davis and to Dr. Allen L. Sessoms,
President of the
