COMMENDING THE CLASS OF 2009-2010 EAGLE SCOUTS FOR HAVING
ATTAINED SCOUTING'S HIGHEST RANK AND CELEBRATING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE
BOY SCOUTS OF |
WHEREAS, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a young man must earn Merit Badges in areas including First Aid, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Personal Fitness, Emergency Preparedness/Lifesaving, Environmental Sciences, Personal Management and Swimming/Hiking/Camping; and
WHEREAS, this distinct honor requires fulfilling requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor preparedness, as well as advancing through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life; and
WHEREAS, this achievement carries with it a special significance both within Scouting and beyond as an Eagle Scout moves on to higher education, business or industry and the world at large; and
WHEREAS, the following Delawareans achieved the rank of Eagle Scout during 2009-2010:

WHEREAS, the current class of Eagle Scouts comes at a momentous time in the history of Scouting, as 2010 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, the Del-Mar-Va Council of the BSA encompasses all of Delaware and the Delmarva peninsula, and involves approximately 388 Scout units with more than 4,500 volunteers serving more than 10,000 youth in traditional Scouting programs; and
WHEREAS, the longevity and success of the Boy Scouts organization has been attributed to the solid foundation of the values and principles embodied in the Scout Oath and the Scout Law, and the fact that since 1910, not one word of either of these two creeds has been changed; and
WHEREAS, the text of the Scout Oath is: "On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."; and
WHEREAS, the text of the Scout Law is: "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."; and
WHEREAS, founder Lord Baden-Powell summed up the goal of the Boy Scouts in six words: "The end is character with purpose."
NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT
RESOLVED by the Senate of the 145th General Assembly of the State of
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we hereby join the Del-Mar-Va Council and Scouts across the nation as they celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America and one hundred years of dedicated service to youth and the community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that upon its passage, a copy of this Resolution shall be presented to the Eagle Scouts and to the Del-Mar-Va Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
SYNOPSIS
This Resolution honors those individuals who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the class of 2009-2010 and celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. |
