147th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 9

COMMENDING JOHN SELL FOR BEING SELECTED DELAWARE’S STATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 2013 AND COMMENDING EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT’S TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, nearly 8,706 teachers work each day with approximately 130,610 children who attend 213 Delaware public schools in 19 school districts and Charter Schools; and

WHEREAS, teachers strive for excellence in their profession when they know that the community supports them and appreciates their efforts on behalf of our children; and

WHEREAS, the Teacher of the Year program identifies building and district representatives who embody the best qualities of all Delaware teachers; and

WHEREAS, the Delaware State Teacher of the Year is chosen for possessing a superior ability to inspire and nurture students with a love of learning and for having won the admiration of fellow teachers, school administrators, and the parents of students; and

WHEREAS, John Sell of Sussex Technical High School in the Sussex Technical School District has been named Delaware State Teacher of the Year for 2013, as part of the National Teacher of the Year program, the oldest and most prestigious award program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching; and

WHEREAS, each of the other eighteen school districts have chosen a 2013 District Teacher of the Year, namely:

Brandywine School District: Sarah Rusk

Caesar Rodney School District: Kimberly Simmons

Cape Henlopen School District: Susan Passwaters

Capital School District: Jennifer O’Keefe

Christina School District: Karen Hruz

Delmar School District: Thomas Slavens

Indian River School District: Cynthia Baker

Lake Forest School District: Clara Conn

Laurel School District: Crystal Ellison

Milford School District: Michele McKenzie

New Castle County Vocational Technical School District: Donna Poore

POLYTECH School District: Sean Kenney

Red Clay Consolidated School District: Patricia Dallas

Seaford School District: Laura Amidon

Smyrna School District: Stefanie Ralph

Woodbridge School District: Constance Bean;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 147^th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the members do hereby commend John Sell for the well-deserved designation as 2013 Delaware State Teacher of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the entire membership of the Delaware General Assembly does hereby extend heartfelt thanks to John Sell, Delaware State Teacher of the Year, and to each of the fellow District Teachers of the Year for 2013, for their many contributions to the betterment of education in Delaware.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable, prepared copies of this House Concurrent Resolution be presented to John Sell and each District Teacher of the Year.

SYNOPSIS

This Concurrent Resolution commends John Sell on his selection as the 2013 Delaware State Teacher of the Year, as well as commending each District Teacher of the Year for 2013.
