SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 3

 

 

RECOGNIZING THE SALVATION ARMY IN DELAWARE AS IT CELEBRATES ITS 125TH ANNIVERSARY.

 


 


WHEREAS, the Salvation Army in Delaware has been helping individuals and families in need for 125 years; and

WHEREAS, the Salvation Army in Delaware began with a meeting of a small group in the second story of 229 Market Street in Wilmington, DE in 1890, not far from its current headquarters; and

WHEREAS, from that first meeting, the Salvation Army in Delaware has grown to have three Corps Ministries in Wilmington, Dover and Seaford, “Doing the Most Good;” and

WHEREAS, the Salvation Army strives to meet the needs of vulnerable groups and those overlooked or ignored in our communities; and

WHEREAS, the Salvation Army makes no distinction based on religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation; and

WHEREAS, the Salvation Army:

·         Runs food banks and serves nutritious meals

·         Shelters homeless families

·         Provides clothing

·         Helps individuals overcome addiction

·         Provides after-school tutoring and recreation

·         Sends inner-city children to summer camp

·         Provides gift baskets for Christmas of toys and coats for kids; and      

WHEREAS, a great many of the Salvation Army’s programs include helping single mothers, abused women, drug  and alcohol addicts, the homeless and the physically challenged; and

WHEREAS, the Salvation Army makes every effort to ensure that the maximum possible amount from donations reaches those in need and locally, approximately 90 cents of every dollar the Salvation Army collects goes to direct assistance to the homeless, the mentally ill, the physically challenged, victims of drug and alcohol abuse, and others under its care;

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, with the approval of the Governor, that the Salvation Army is hereby recognized for its exceptional service to individuals and families in Delaware on the occasion of its 125th anniversary.   


SYNOPSIS

This Senate Joint Resolution recognizes the Salvation Army in Delaware on its 125th anniversary.
