SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 36 |
RECOGNIZING THE NEED TO RAISE AWARENESS AND ENCOURAGE RESEARCH OF TYPE 1 DIABETES. |
WHEREAS, type 1 diabetes is widespread across the United States; and
WHEREAS, approximately 1.25 million children and adults in the United States may have type 1 diabetes; and
WHEREAS, from 2008 to 2009, the annual number of youth diagnosed with type 1 diabetes was approximately 18,436; and
WHEREAS, people diagnosed with diabetes are at risk for co-existing conditions or complications which, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can include heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, and lower-limb amputation; and
WHEREAS, awareness of type 1 diabetes is critical to reduce the harmful effects and risks associated with the disease and promote continued research to find a cure; and
WHEREAS, Sadie Davis, a 12 year old resident of Milton, Delaware, has been selected by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (“JDRF”) to join 160 other children from around the country in Washington, D.C. to remind their members of Congress of the vital need to continue supporting research that aims to reduce the burden they all share of living with type 1 diabetes;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the General Assembly recognizes the need to raise awareness and encourage research of type 1 diabetes.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware supports Sadie Davis, whose advocacy through JDRF’s 2015 Children’s Congress will promote continued research to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
SYNOPSIS
This concurrent resolution recognizes the need to raise awareness and encourage research of type 1 diabetes, in honor of Sadie Davis, who has been selected to represent Delaware at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s 2015 Children’s Congress. Author: Senator Hall-Long |
