SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 49 |
COMMENDING SANDRA HALL FOR BEING SELECTED AS DELAWARE'S STATE TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 2016 AND COMMENDING EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR. |
WHEREAS, nearly 8,987 teachers work each day with approximately 134,932 children who attend 222 Delaware public schools in 19 school districts and Charter Schools; and
WHEREAS, teachers strive for excellence in their profession when they know that the community supports them and appreciates their efforts on behalf of our children; and
WHEREAS, the Teacher of the Year program identifies building and district representatives who embody the best qualities of all Delaware teachers; and
WHEREAS, the Delaware State Teacher of the Year is chosen for possessing a superior ability to inspire and nurture students with a love of learning and for having won the admiration and respect of fellow teachers, school administrators, and the parents of students; and
WHEREAS, Sandra Hall of North Smyrna Elementary in the Smyrna School District has been named Delaware State Teacher of the Year for 2016, as part of the National Teacher of the Year program, the oldest and most prestigious award program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching; and
WHEREAS, each of the other eighteen school districts has chosen a 2016 District Teacher of the Year, namely:
Appoquinimink: Amanda Chas, Middletown High, Grades 9-12 drama, theatre and dance
Brandywine: Diana Golden, Forwood Elementary, Grade 5 math, reading (on special assignment as a teacher leader at Harlan Elementary for 1 year)
Caesar Rodney: Sandra Krugh, Simpson Elementary, Grade 1
Cape Henlopen: Kristin Gray, Shields Elementary, Grades K - 5 mathematics
Capital: Lyndsey Cook, Kent County Community School, Grades 5-6 science/mathematics Christina: Meghan Farrell, Brader Elementary, Grade 4
Colonial: Laura Bossert, Downie Elementary, Grade 4
Delmar: Lori Smith, Delmar Middle, Grades 5-8 mathematics
Indian River: Jennifer L. Cordrey, Indian River High, Grades 9-12 agriscience
Lake Forest: Kelly A. Sipple, Chipman Middle, grades 6-8 business education
Laurel: Mary Pierce-Cass, Laurel High, Grade 9 integrated/physical science

NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 148th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the Members do hereby commend Sandra Hall for the well-deserved designation as 2016 Delaware State Teacher of the Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the entire membership of the Delaware General Assembly does hereby extend heartfelt gratitude to Sandra Hall, Delaware State Teacher of the Year, and to each of the fellow District Teachers of the Year for 2016, for their many contributions to the betterment of education in Delaware.
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that suitably prepared copies of this House Concurrent Resolution be
presented to Sandra Hall and each of the District Teachers of the Year.
SYNOPSIS
This Concurrent Resolution commends the 2016 Delaware State Teacher of the Year, Sandra Hall, and all of the District Teachers of the Year. |
