| Long Title: | AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 20 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO THE BURIAL OF WAR VETERANS. |
| Synopsis: | The provisions in §§901, 902, and 903 of Title 20 of the Delaware Code requiring the Delaware National Guard to fund the burial expenses of war veterans are outdated. They are no longer needed based on the legal requirements for the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) to provide for the burial of all indigents in Delaware and the well established DHSS procedures for doing so under 31 Del. C. §110. The federal government provides all military members deployed in combat zones with $150,000 in life insurance coverage under the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) program at no cost to the service member. Military honors are provided by the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs through the establishment of the Delaware Veterans Cemeteries. Maintaining the duplicative language in Title 20 has caused unnecessary confusion among the families of deceased veterans and within State government agencies.
