A graduate of Sussex Central High School and Delaware Technical and Community College, Steve Smyk has also completed specialized military and law enforcement training and coursework.

Representative Steve Smyk was first elected to the Delaware House of Representatives in 2012. He is a Delaware Army National Guard veteran and a retired Delaware State Police Trooper. Steve Smyk served with the State Police for 24 years, rising to become the president of the Delaware State Trooper Association. He is currently serving his second term representing the 20th District in Sussex County and sits on five House committees. An outspoken authority on public safety issues, he has twice been recognized as a "Legislator of the Year" by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his efforts to reduce alcohol-related crashes.
