DESIGNATING APRIL 27, 2022, AS ULYSSES S. GRANT DAY IN DELAWARE.
This Senate Resolution designates April 27, 2022, as Ulysses S. Grant Day. General Ulysses S. Grant was the Union General responsible for the Confederate troops’ surrender that ended the Civil War. However, few are aware that as President, Grant also secured the ratification of the Fifteenth Amendment, which prohibits racial discrimination with respect to voting rights, signed into law the creation of the Department of Justice, Enforcement Acts, and a Civil Rights Act that upholds Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendment rights, and pushed prosecution efforts to eradicate the 19th century Ku Klux Klan. This Senate Resolution encourages the public to celebrate the memory of President Ulysses S. Grant and furthers education on his life and legacy.
